Fold, snap, submit!
As part of our 2011 festive greetings, we’re curating a little Tumblr called Origami Santa.
Head on over to www.origamisanta.net to get your instructions, then e-mail us a photo of your hand-folded festive figure to photo@origamisanta.net and we’ll put it up.
So spread the word across the social networks - there’s nothing like a bit of home-spun arts and crafts to mark your countdown to Christmas.

Post-festive self-promotion for 2011
At DesignTactics, we try to avoid getting lost in the sea of festive greetings that land on client’s desks in the run up to Christmas. (And with the blizzards a few weeks back, we couldn’t have gotten anything to our clients even if we wanted to…)
This January, we decided to reward some of our clients for making it through the first fortnight of 2011 with a resolution-busting box of chocolates.
We’re optimistic about this year: Why deprive yourself of an essential like chocolate as 2011 makes its first tentative steps towards greatness?
Big thanks to Barbara and Jonny in the studio for hand-producing the packs!

A 2010 Highlight: Our work selected for “1,000 More Greetings” Book
We got another nice piece of recognition this year: Our Halloween card - already featured in Creative Review - was highlighted for mention in this annual round-up of the world’s best self-promotional design work. Yeay!
A 2010 Highlight: Our packs for Java Republic Loose Teas featured in “Really Good Packaging” Book
Here’s another 2010 highlight - Rockport Publishing selected one of our pack designs for inclusion in their worldwide best of book: “Really Good Packaging Explained”.
If you fancy a cuppa now you’ve seen the packs - you can buy them here from Java Republic’s website.
A 2010 Highlight: Our Posters for the Haiti Poster Project
As we try to clear our desks of work (and our cars of snow) before Christmas, we’re taking the chance to catch up with what we’ve been up to over the past 12 months.
Like many, we were stunned by the devastation in Haiti earlier in the year - which led us to submit designs to The Haiti Poster project. (We blogged about the initiative earlier this year.) This international charitable project brought together designers from around the world to raise funds for Médicins Sans Frontières. We were honoured to have two designs selected for inclusion, alongside posters from elite agencies from around the world like Pentagram and Sagmeister.
DesignTactics funded the printing, production and shipping of the posters to the US distribution centre, which means every cent of their sale price goes to charity. Some of the limited edition run of 80 signed prints are still available for sale. Click here or here to get the perfect New Year’s gift!

Finally, here’s the new opening sequence that we created for this year’s ceremony. We retained our TidyTowns theme music (originally written for the 50th Anniversary) as it was also used for this year’s radio ads. Here’s to next year!
Here’s the big winner announcement from yesterday’s TidyTowns ceremony, which DesignTactics produced. Another great year, with The Helix proving to be a superb venue. Thanks to all the venue crew, and to the always unflappable team from AVTEK.

We’re operating a virtual studio today: The picturesque weather that hit Dublin yesterday made cross-city commutes nigh impossible, so we sent home the designers with computer (or files) in hand. Brendan’s managing ice-station Nutgrove today, while everybody else logs in from the relative comfort of home. Hope you’re all enjoying the weather!

Brand your business better in 2010 «
For 10 years, DesignTactics has been helping clients - from blue-chip to start-up - to create or improve their brands.
As Ireland experiences a new wave of entrepreneurship, we’re using our expertise to help new businesses understand the benefits of branding.
Partnering with the County Enterprise Boards, we’re delivering a presentation on “Branding for Business Growth”. This seminar offers a practical introduction to the principles of branding, and shows how a brand-led approach can connect your offer to your customers in a more consistent, relevant and engaging way.
Click on the link to see details of the first date in 2010 for this presentation:
Tuesday 12th January in Dublin.
Please note new date - event rescheduled!
Tuesday 9th February in Dublin.
The presentation is delivered by Brendan Donlon, the founder and Creative Director of DesignTactics: In his career as a designer, Brendan helped Irish brands such as Goodfella’s, Glanbia and Eircom to improve their customer connection. With his team at DesignTactics, Brendan has created and revived brands like Java Republic, Freshways Sandwiches, Dawn Juices, Waterford Stanley, and the National Dairy Council.

Here at DesignTactics we’ve tried to beat the Christmas rush by sending a Halloween card to clients this year - it features a nifty pop-up pumpkin. Excitingly, it’s been picked up by Creative Review; see more by clicking here.
