Happy Birthday Massimo Vignelli!

The grand-daddy of modernist visual communications celebrated his 80th birthday on Monday. Famous for his work on the New York subway, as well as iconic brands like Bloomingdales and Knoll, he also had wonderfully strident views on how many typefaces the world really needed. (The answer is 12.) He’s still working away on product, graphic and furniture design. We’re torn between admiration for his love of work at any age, and fear that we’ll still *have* to be working at 80!
